Sectioning
A large document can consist of several levels of subunits:
\chapter, \section, \subsection, \subsubsection, \paragraph, \subparagraph.
A new unit is started by inserting the appropriate command with the name of the unit as argument.
The name of the unit is used in several places:
at the beginning of the section as a header
as a page header
in the table of contents
The documentclass
article
is used for smaller documents. It doesn't allow the use of
\chapter
.
The command
\tableofcontents
generates a table of content at the given position, using the headers of the subunits.
Since the information may not be complete at the time the
\tableofcontents
is read, one has to repeat the L
A
T
E
X translation step.
